Arlen’s atlas therapy in Berlin-Frohnau
Atlas therapy | Focused treatment of the first cervical vertebraIn our practice, atlas therapy is used for infants with KISS and KIDD syndromes as well as for children and adults. This special method, developed in France, focuses on the treatment of the first cervical vertebra (atlas). It has a particular effect on the central nervous system and promotes improved blood circulation in the skull and brain. By specifically reducing muscle tension, atlas therapy is an important component in the treatment of many painful conditions and neurological disorders. It has been particularly successful in the treatment of dizziness. |

Arlen's Atlas therapy is a particularly gentle manual medical technique that differs fundamentally from conventional chirotherapy in its implementation, objectives and results. It aims to harmonise muscle tension, the involuntary nervous system (vegetative), the equilibrium system and the body's self-perception. In contrast to conventional chirotherapy, atlas therapy does not involve any of the typical risks, as it is performed without traction, rotation or tilting of the cervical spine. If performed correctly, injury to the cervical spine artery is impossible and has not been documented to date. Methodology and effect of atlas therapyThe atlas, the first cervical vertebra, is connected to the base of the skull by joints. The surrounding muscles and connective tissue are permeated with a dense network of nerves. These nerves perform important functions: they register the body's position in space, control the tension of the entire muscle and tendon system and are directly connected to the vestibular system as well as certain brain centres that are responsible for gross and fine motor skills. They also play a role in the processing of pain signals. The muscles and tendons in the upper neck form a kind of sensory organ that sends information to the brain. There, this data is processed and converted into corresponding reactions. However, in the case of pathological conditions, such as tension or movement disorders, false signals can be transmitted. Atlas therapy starts here by correcting the faulty information processing and bringing the body's condition back towards normality. The treatment is carried out on a seated patient. Based on the positional analysis of the atlas, a targeted, short impulse is given with the middle finger on the transverse process of the atlas. The impulse is so precise and short – lasting only 12-15 milliseconds, comparable to the blink of an eye – that no protective reflexes are triggered and the treatment remains painless. The intensity of the impulse can be adjusted individually and exactly reproduced at any time to achieve optimal results. Indications for treatmentTherapeutic successes have been documented for:

It should be noted that atlas therapy cannot restore destroyed structures. Its aim is rather to optimise the function of the still intact structures, ideally in combination with targeted muscle building. In our practice, we successfully use this method on infants with the so-called KISS syndrome or KIDD syndrome and on patients with dizziness. Atlas therapy was developed by Dr Surminski as an extension of manual medicine and completed at the Ärztegesellschaft für Atlastherapie und Manuelle Kinderbehandlung (ÄGAMK) as Integrated Manual Medical Developmental Therapy (IMMET). |
